How a listing works
The life of a Hong Kong IPO, and what we record at each step
Every listing goes through the same stages. The tracker follows each one, from the first filing to the end of stabilisation, and links to the document behind it.
Application filed
An Application Proof goes up on HKEXnews. We log the company and link to the filing.
Listing hearing
The Listing Committee reviews the deal. We log the date it passes and link to the Post Hearing Information Pack.
Launch
The prospectus and formal notice go up. We record the price range or maximum price and the timetable.
Offer period
Retail and institutional investors subscribe for shares. We show the dates and whether the book is open today.
Pricing
The final offer price is fixed, and we note where it landed in the range.
Allotment results
How many times the public and international offers were covered, any clawback, and how much was raised.
First day of trading
We record the offer price and how the shares closed on day one.
Stabilisation ends
About 30 days later: whether the greenshoe, the over-allotment option, was exercised in full, in part or not at all.
Coming soon
Offshore bond monitor
New US dollar, offshore renminbi and Hong Kong dollar bonds from Chinese issuers, with the same fields recorded for every deal: issuer and credit support, size, coupon, tenor, ranking, ratings and use of proceeds.
Methodology
How the data is collected
- Sources
- Applications, hearings, prospectuses, allotment results and stabilisation announcements come from HKEXnews. Filing notices for mainland companies come from the China Securities Regulatory Commission website. First-day prices come from Yahoo Finance.
- Timing
- The tracker runs once a day at 6:00 Hong Kong time, so anything filed during the day appears the next morning.
- Stages
- Application filed means an Application Proof is on HKEXnews. Hearing passed means a Post Hearing Information Pack has been published. Offering means the prospectus is out and the shares have not started trading. Listed means the shares have started trading.
- Known gaps
- Prices, subscription levels and greenshoe results are read from the standard summary in each announcement. If an announcement uses an unusual layout, the figure is left blank rather than guessed. Offering records go back to January 2026; earlier filings and hearings are incomplete. The CSRC site returns only its five most recent filing notices, so on busy days some can be missed.
- Sources first
- Every entry links to the document it came from. Where our data and the filing differ, the filing is right.
FAQ
Questions
Does it cost anything?
No. Greenshoe is free, and we don't ask for payment details.
Is this investment advice?
No. We publish data and factual summaries of public documents. We don't tell anyone to buy or sell a security.
Where does the data come from?
Application, hearing and listing records come from HKEXnews. Filing notices for mainland companies come from the China Securities Regulatory Commission. First-day closing prices come from public market data. Every entry links to the document it came from.
How up to date is it?
The tracker checks HKEXnews and the CSRC every morning at 6:00 Hong Kong time. Always check the linked filing before relying on a figure.
Why is it called Greenshoe?
A greenshoe is the over-allotment option in an IPO. It lets the banks sell up to 15% more shares than planned and helps support the price after listing. It's the last thing that happens in a deal's life, and the last thing we track.
